The bright purple of the cochineal has been muted a little by the addition of iron in the dye bath.
Cochineal (Dactylopius coccus) Its bugs! The dye is created from crushed insects, native to Mexico and South America. This insect lives on prickly pear plants and can create colors from this vibrant purple to deep reds.
This yarn is 100% hand spun wool. Our “Fen” line is a singly ply worsted weight yarn in 200 yard skeins (182y). For the in stock products, the pictures are always of the same dye lot that you skeins will come from.
